This page is maintained by Marcelo Caiado, a Computer Forensics Analyst at the Federal Prosecution Service of Brazil (MPF). He has over 25 years of experience in the cybersecurity industry, during which time he worked on a wide range of projects related to information security, incident response, and digital forensics. At MPF, he held various leadership positions, including the Head of Computer Forensics and the Head of Computer Security Division. In those roles, he and his team were responsible for the MPF computer forensics and managing the cybersecurity of over 200 locations across Brazil, responding to security incidents and conducting computer forensics investigations using EnCase, and administering security devices such as Firewalls, UTMs, IPSs, SIEM, and antivirus.

In 2017, he started the computer forensics division at MPF, where he led investigations into internal and external cybercrimes, including organized crime, ransomware, child exploitation, racism, crimes committed by federal public servants (such as theft, embezzlement, active or passive corruption, influence peddling, and irregular use of public funds or income), and crimes against civil servants in the exercise of their functions. His work also involves participation in administrative and judicial proceedings. In recent years, his team and I have seen a significant shift in the demands we receive, from computer forensics to mobile forensics and email search warrants.

From 2008 to 2010, he worked as a cybersecurity investigator at BlackBerry, responding to various security incidents, such as denial-of-service attacks, virus infestations, and internal fraud, and investigating employees involved in information security breaches, violations, and incidents.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Brasília (UnB), an MBA in Public Management from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Administration from the União de Educação Brasilia (UNEB) and is a Data Processing Technologist from Universidade Católica of Brasília (UCB). He also works as an adjunct professor of Digital Forensics at the Master of Science in CyberSecurity from the New York Institute of Technology and at post-graduation courses: Information Security Management on Information Technology Governance at Escola Superior do MPU – ESMPU  at WB Educação and at  Insper – Ensino Superior em Negócios, Direito, Engenharia e Ciência da Computação.

Additionally, he provided training, lectures, and classes for universities in cybercrime, computer forensics, information security, and management. Besides that, he is an official instructor of the courses Cellebrite Mobile Forensics Fundamentals (CMFF), Cellebrite Certified Operator (CCO), Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA), Cellebrite Corporate Investigator Fundamentals (CCIF) and Cellebrite Advanced Smartphone Analysis (CASA), from Cellebrite, and Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst (CTIA), from EC-Council. He also mentors the following courses from SANS Institue Advanced Computer Forensic Analysis and Incident Response (FOR 508),  Hacker Techniques, Exploits & Incident Handling (SEC 504) and  Security Leadership Essentials for Managers (MGT 512), and had also mentored a few classes of  Computer Forensic Investigations – Windows In-Depth (FOR 408).

He currently holds the following certifications: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), GCFA (GIAC Certified Forensics Analyst), GCIH (GIAC Certified Incident Handler), GSLC (GIAC Security Leadership Certified), GISP (GIAC Information Security Professional), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Cellebrite Advanced Smartphone Analysis (CASA) ExaminerCyber Threat Intelligence Analyst (CTIA), Chainalysis Cryptocurrency Fundamentals Certification (CCFC), .

As a published author, he co-authored the book Cyber Risk – National and Corporate Strategies on Risks and Cyber Security (in Portuguese), released on 11/28/2020, by Revista dos Tribunais (Publisher Thompson Reuters), with the chapter Challenges and Opportunities in Digital Forensics, and the book “Advanced investigation techniques – practical and jurisprudential perspectives“, released by ESMPU on 10/04/2021, with a chapter on Digital Forensics.

He was also the Secretary of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA) – Brazil chapter, from 2013 to 2020, and a consultant member of the Electronic Law and High Technology Crimes Commission of OAB São Paulo.
